It is supported by the DAAD (German Federal Institution for Academic Exchange) and private philanthropy.
The aim of this program is to provide scientific knowledge and state-of-the-art experimental experience to current and emerging biomedical research areas with a focus on translational research and development. The IMBS offers a 2- year course for the degree "Master of Science (M.Sc.) from the University of Buenos Aires". The first eight months are carried out in University Buenos Aires. The next four months take place in Germany and include one week intensive course for each module and laboratory rotations. There are special lectures and courses are given by leading scientists from both institutions. The Duration of the IMBS is four semesters including the Master thesis. You can also go into the PhD program. The program is open to students from all over the world, who hold a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) in the biosciences, chemistry, Biology, medicine, or related fields. All courses are held in English. Partial scholarships are available. The academic year starts in mid-October. Applications are welcome until June 30th of the year of enrollment. Admission is only possible to the first segment of the program, not directly to the PhD program.
- MSc Program: Students may conclude the program with a Master’s thesis, based on ten months of experimental, scientific research. The degree Master of Science (MSc) is awarded from the University of Buenos Aires upon successful completion of the Master’s thesis (Msc. degree can possibly be recognized in Germany upon request). Master Thesis can be performed either in a research group in Buenos Aires or in Freiburg.
- PhD Program: Good to excellent results after the first year qualify for admission to a three-year doctoral project in one of the participating research groups.
